2025 Listening Campaign

During our 2025 listening campaign, the Maryland Just Power Alliance listened to more than 3,000 people in 47 institutions—including congregations, schools, unions, and tenants’ associations. Our facilitators asked participants, “What is keeping you and your family from thriving?” They noted the issues raised and potential new leaders who could engage in our work.

We base our work in the real concerns of everyday people. In August, we trained 200 leaders on how to facilitate deep listening with an equity lens. In September, we kicked off our statewide listening campaign and sent leaders out to organize listening sessions in their institutions.

What We Heard

The following top issues were raised across ACT, AIM, and PATH as affecting people’s day-to-day lives:

  • Cost of housing

  • Other costs of living, including healthcare and food

  • Immigration

  • Youth + education

  • Healthy homes + climate equity

  • Discrimination, division, and hate

  • Lack of well-paying jobs

Next Steps

Now that we’ve expanded our relational power and identified top issues through listening, we’re organizing to take action on our priorities in the 2026 elections!

In 2026, there will be many important elections at the county and state levels.

We’re holding candidate forums with these candidates, starting with county offices in the first half of the year and turning to statewide races in the second half of the year.

We’ll ask candidates whether they commit to working with us on the most pressing issues affecting people’s daily lives, which we identified in our listening sessions.
