Leaders Act Against Proposed Utility Rate Increase

Eleven leaders from the Maryland Just Power Alliance testified against a proposed Washington Gas rate increase at the Public Service Commission hearing this week.

"While we continue to breathe unhealthy air in our homes, this rate increase places further financial strain on families trying to make ends meet with the incredibly high cost of living in our area," said Rev. Catherine Manhardt. "This is a moment when Maryland needs to be investing in an equitable clean energy transition, not pouring more money into gas infrastructure and corporate profits."

"When you consider an increase in gas rates, you are not just approving a financial adjustment — you are adding more pressure on families who are already at their breaking point,” said Carolina Morales. "Supporting this spending today compromises the well-being of families tomorrow.”

Great work to our Healthy Homes/Climate Equity team!
